Schumer Pushes Program to Battle Teen Drug Abuse – JERICHO — New York State Senator Charles Schumer discussed a new program Monday to reduce dangerous prescription drug use among teens on the island. Speaking at Jericho Middle School, Schumer called on Long Island pharmacy students to help in the battle against prescription drugs by spreading awareness about the risks among teens. According to a recent Center for Disease Control study, eight times more teens are admitted today for prescription drug abuse than a decade ago and 55 percent of teens do not believe these drugs pose a serious health risk.
